Blake the Poptart!

Apparently, these girls didn’t know this was Blake at the time, even though they are huge fans. Sneaky, sneaky!

Laura’s Portland, OR Recap

Ok, my flight arrived at 4:35pm…got my luggage a bit after 5. My sister picked me up and wanted to go to the new IKEA that had just opened a couple of days prior. I was hesitant, but said ok…as long as we made it quick. Long story short, Sister Metalhead (as she’ll be called for this recap, since she is one by her own admittance), as hesitant as she was about being dragged along, has a long history of tardiness. So despite my expressed desire to be at the show on time, we got there slightly after 7, and still had to pick tickets up from the Will Call box and pee. Imagine that.

Blake Loves Seattle!

While we (im)patiently await reports from Sarah, pj, etc. about Blake’s homecoming concert, let’s review some of the most interesting tidbits that we’ve seen in the flurry of press over the last few days.

First up, here’s a fun little video clip from Seattle’s FOX affiliate, Q13. Blake dances in his Pop Tart skivvies and delivers a beatbox ode to Seatown!

In more exciting news, it sounds as if Blake’s debut album is really coming along. He’s got 6 (or is it 7 now?) songs recorded, and tells The Herald he even has a title in mind!

Lewis is now working on his debut album, writing songs on tour and preparing to record the rest of them. He has six songs done for the album that he expects will be entitled “A.D.D.,” for “Audio Day Dream,” and will be released on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

11/20/07: Will you get A.D.D.? (Hee!!)

While fans are currently left to discuss rumors and speculate about Blake’s record label situation, according to this Bshorty quote from USA Today’s Idol Chatter blog, 19 Entertainment is involved and they are apparently supportive of Blake’s project.

I had a meeting with 19 and presented a concept of what I wanted to do and they said, ‘Cool, let’s do it.’ I have seven songs already recorded. I’m writing a lot. I think I’ve had the most fun out of any contestant who’s been on the show.

Let’s hope more details will be revealed throughout the summer!

Tacoma, WA - July 27

Update from Sarah: We had a BLAST! Blake was fantastic! The crowd was very responsive to all the performers, but it was most definitely a Blake crowd all the way. The cheering was about 3 times as loud as Tampa… my ears are still ringing. :)

The looping pedals WORKED! and “She Will be Loved” was incredible. I had chills. Each song was different than I’d ever heard it before. It was obvious that Blake was glad to be home, and he was determined to put on a great show for his hometown crowd… and he did not disappoint.

Little tidbit: During the second half, Blake came out wearing a Blue Scholars shirt and wore it for the rest of the show, until the very end. Also, at the end of the Cake duet, he gave a shoutout to local musicians, and made a point to promote supporting them. In fact, he even pointed out that there are always all age clubs, where you can not only listen to the music, but perform as well.

Here’s a little pics teaser for ya. They’re not very high res and my camera is pretty old and cheap (heh.), but at least they can give you a taste of the concert for now. I’ll upload more later. BTW, Cisco was there videoing as was Ethan taking pics (in fact, his head was in several of my pics, heh), so there should be a lot of great media surfacing in the future.

I thought I’d start a post for tonight’s concert early since it’s Blake’s homecoming show! Our very own pj and Sarah will be on the scene, so we have their recaps to look forward to! Have fun ladies. :) And don’t forget, we love to hear reports from our readers, so if you’ve got something to say don’t be shy! Leave your comments here or e-mail us: teamplaid@gmail.com

If you’re going to the show tonight, stop by the KISS 106.1 station and say hi to head Blaker Girls, Kristi and Andrea.

Just for fun, let’s revisit Blake’s Idol homecoming celebration…

Have a great show tonight Bshorty! ♥

It’s mj, and I’ll be posting updates from Sarah…

  • Update (7:38 PST) - HA HA Blake Lewis is dressed as a Pop Tart in the opening!!!  His friend Ethan is up front taking pictures, so there should be some good ones…
  • Update (7:41 PST) - A little girl just gave Sanjaya a rose…
  • Update (7:48 PST) - Blake’s mom is dancing in the aisles to Chris Sligh’s solo…
  • Update (8:01 PST) - Time for Blake!  The whole place is up…

Update (intermission) - I spoke with Sarah on the phone and she tells me:

  • When Blake started to perform the entire audience stood, and stayed standing for the entire performance.  He gave a very heartfelt thankyou to the peeps in his hometown.
  • Blake’s dad wore a black shirt bedazzled with his nickname B shorty.
  • Washington loves them some Sanjaya, too, but Blake took first place in the applause-0-meter tonight.
  • The sound was much better tonight than it was at the beginning of the tour.
  • Gina  was cracking up during her duet with Chris Sligh: ”Thnks Fr Th Mmrs.”
  • Second Half

    • Update (9:02 PST) - Phil Stacey and the girls give Sarah goosebumps singing “America, the Beautiful”.
    • Update (9:02 PST) - The guys number is fantastic! No backing instruments, just the guys playing guitars, keyboards and drums…
    • Update (9:21 PST) - Chris Richardson and Blake did a little beatboxing battle at the end of their duet (Ain’t no Sunshine/Virtual Insanity/Geek In Pink)
    • Update (9:23 PST) - Phil tried his best to crack Gina up during their duet.  He got down on one knee to hug her…
    • Update (9:29 PST) - Sarah is trying to get a picture of Blake, but he won’t look her way…and Melinda Doolittle just reminded everybody that Jordin Sparks is OMG Only!1! 17!11! OMG!
    • Update (9:35 PST) - Melinda sounds even better than she did in Tampa, FL at the beginning of the tour.  How did she not win?  She got huge cheers from the crowd.
    • Update (9:38 PST) - Jordin is finished with one song, and she’s already sucking down a bottle of water…
    • Update (9:49 PST) - Jordin sounds good, but a little strained.  Most folks have been sitting through her set.

    Maroon 5!

    Maroon 5

Whoops! It’s been a while since we’ve done a new feature. Lucky for you guys that the newest feature is about one of Blake’s favorite bands ever – Maroon 5. And that YouTube has a wealth of interesting videos on this band.
