Tour Chat, Part II - Plus other info.

ETA2: Here’s a new AOL chat interview with Blake. Also, the Yakima Herald Republic spotlights AriSawkaDoria.

Well! After a HUGE drought of news, we finally have a few things to talk about.

First of all, here’s a TV Guide interview where Blake talks a little about his upcoming album.

High points:

- He began recording on June 18, and has finished recording his first track.
- He has written seven songs.
- BT has signed on to produce, and Doug E Fresh is in talks to beatbox on a track.
- He wants to have four or five people beatbox between tracks.
- He would classify his sound as “electro-funk-soul-pop”. He is inspired by electronic music, and wants to bring some of the vibe of 80’s music back to his sound.
- “They” want the album out by Thanksgiving or Christmas.

So. My question is this: when are we going to get a dang signing and label announcement?! It would be nice to know who “they” are.

Also, check here for a tour video, and here for a radio interview.

ETA: Nevermind, no new videos from the poptarts site. :)

Thanks Jenlar, Star, and HannaK!

Tour Chat

Or two-er, if you prefer. ;) It’s almost here, y’all! Here’s a spiffy little interview with all of the Season 6ers, courtesy Fox LA. Blake gets lots of screentime! The interviewer is most definitely on Team Plaid.

In summary…

  • Blake’s recording his album!
  • Blake is gonna shave Sanjaya’s head while he’s sleeping, and he can’t stand Jordin. Hee.
  • Blake’s recording his album!
  • Dear Steve Jobs, Blake needs a new Mac.
  • Blake’s recording his album!!!!!11!!eleventy!!
  • ETA: Another great group interview from Access Hollywood! Make sure you watch the whole thing - Blake plays drums at the end!

    Gnarls Barkley

Goofy boys... tricks are for kids! Today we spotlight the music of DJ Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and Cee-Lo Green (Thomas Callaway), the duo known as Gnarls Barkley. Blake has mentioned that he’d love to work with them, so let’s take a look at the men behind the costumes.

Before teaming up with Cee-Lo, Danger Mouse gained notoriety in the music world when he released The Grey Album, a mash-up of an acapella version of Jay Z’s The Black Album and The Bealtes (The White Album). Although the result was a critical success, Danger Mouse neglected to obtain permission to sample the Beatles’ work and EMI (who owns the rights to The White Album) promptly blocked further distribution of it. The Grey Album then became a poster child of sorts for those who believe sampling should be considered “fair use” in the world of copyright law. *ahem – it’s easy to find a bootleg copy*

Some peeps believe The Beatles should be off-limits, but I’m a fan of The Grey Album and recommend this article on the album’s production. Standout tracks for me include “99 Problems” (sampling “Helter Skelter”) and “Encore” (sampling “Glass Onion” and “Savoy Truffle”). You gotta check out this clever video of “Encore” if only to see “John Lennon” break dance (sorry purists).

In addition to The Grey Album, Danger Mouse produced Demon Days, the second studio album from The Gorrillaz, which features the hit “Feel Good, Inc.” This work earned him a Grammy nomination for production.

Cee-Lo and Gnarls after the jump!

    Updates!

Blake posted a blog on his myspace. I love that there’s a typo in the title. But that’s just me being OCD. ;)

Yes, This is my Official Mysapce Page.
    Current mood: happy

    Hello everyone,

A lot of questions keep coming up if this is my page or not. It is!! I just got back online from not having control of my page because of American Idol contest rules and now its up and running.

As of now, I’m am in rehersals for the A.I. tour and things are running smoothly. Got a lot of special things happening on the tour this year and I’m really excited for it to start. On top of tour, I have been in meetings with producers and writers for my album, which is set to come out sometime by Thanks Giving to Christmas. I can’t thank you enough for all the responses and support that has come from this amazing journey. I’ve been working hard for the last seven years on writing and performing and American Idol has been the best platform for me to reach out and communicate my art thus far. Thank you again for reaching back.

Very soon I’ll be putting up some music, pictures and art I have been working on.

    Love and Happiness,

    Your friend, Blake

The Blaker Girls also posted a bulletin from their myspace. Basically just a “hey, we’re still here, we’re not dead” bulletin, but welcome nonetheless.

    Hello Blaker Girls and Boys!

    TOUR
I hope everyone has their American Idol tour tickets purchased and ready to go! We over at Blaker Girls are excited for the tour. We’ve been asked several times so we are going to just let you know here as well. We don’t have any information about tickets, backstage passes, or meet and greets. If we get that info we will share it with you!

    BLAKERGIRLS.COM
Many of you may have noticed Blakergirls.com acting a little funny lately. We switched servers and are still fixing all the little glitches that came along with it. The image galleries are down, we haven’t moved all the images onto the new server so please bear with us!

    PEOPLE’S HOTTEST BACHELORS 2007
Blake made it on the list of People’s Single and Sizzling Men of 07. Check it out here.

    The Blaker Girls

Here’s a really great article that The Stranger published about Blake - American Ideal - Why Seattle Should Love Blake Lewis. Most of you have probably already seen the link in the comments and read the article, but I thought it deserved a front page mention for people who may not read comments. Two thumbs up to the author of this article!!

    Pop-Tart Ninja

In less than a month, Blake and his Idol cohorts will begin their journey across the nation on the AI summer tour. Do you have your tickets yet? If not, Ticketmaster’s got ‘em!

Everyone’s favorite breakfast pastry, Pop-Tarts, sponsors the tour each year, and they usually feature special coverage on their website. This year is no different! Make sure you log on to poptarts.com all summer long to check out the latest webisodes. They’ve already got a couple up! There’s not an abundance of Blakeness so far, although he is shown quite a bit in the preview vid (edited down to just the Blake segments)…

Okay, now for some dirt…the Idols are currently hard at work in L.A. rehearsing the show. Usually, tour spoilers are pretty hard to come by. As in, we never get them. Heh. But this year? We’ve got a blog-happy Idol that’s been sharing tidbits here and there. Find out more after the jump!

    Blake on The View

Don’t forget that Blake will be on The View today! It was taped on Monday, and there’s some great information in our Odds and Ends thread from one of our posters who was able to attend the taping. Check it out and don’t forget to check your local listings for times. I know that my tivo is set and ready to go! :)

As always, we’ll have video up as soon as we can!

ETA: Video of Blake Lewis on The View!

    Thanks for the video MJ!

    Blake - Hot Bachelor

Well, duh. Team Plaid already knew that Blake’s a hot bachelor! I guess it does take a little longer for others to figure it out. ;)

But, no worries! Blake will be featured in the upcoming People magazine as one of the Hottest Bachelors of 2007. It’s on stands June 15 (Friday!) so don’t forget to pick it up!

Here’s Blake’s quiz page on the People website and here is the main page. Another feature page here. Really hot pic alert! :)

There’s also a video on the site, where Blake talks about what he likes in a woman. I dunno about y’all, but I like those answers. :)

    Jamiroquai

Our second spotlighted artist is Brit funk band Jamiroquai. Blake often mentions them when asked what his album will sound like, and that makes me a happy Blaker Girl as I’m quite the fan! Jamiroquai first caught my attention in 1997 with their trippy music video for “Virtual Insanity,” an expression of fear about just how far technology can take us wrapped up in a slick, bouncy pop tune. Ironically, the song’s video is considered somewhat of a technological breakthrough, and it earned Jamiroquai four moon men at the ‘97 MTV Video Music Awards, including the top prize, Video Of The Year.

The eye-catching vid helped give Jamiroquai its first and really only taste of success here in the US with their third album, Travelling Without Moving. The band was already popular in their native UK, starting with its 1993 debut Emergency On Planet Earth. Frontman Jay Kay’s smooth, soulful vocals coupled with their fusion of acid jazz, funk, electronica, and grooves that would make some of the biggest disco acts of the 70’s jealous was a perfect fit for London’s club scene. Stateside, the follow-up albums to Travelling Without Moving produced singles that were limited to success on Billboard’s dance music charts. Find out some Jamiroquai tunes worth a listen after the jump!

    Odds and Ends

ETA: Blake was interviewed by HOT 99.5. You can listen to it here.

Don’t forget that Blake will be on The View on Thursday. The show is pre-taped and he is supposedly taping it on Monday. If you were able to be in the studio audience or waited outside to see him, please please post about your experience in the comments! And remember to set your DVR’s to tape the show! As always, we’ll have the video posted here as soon as it’s available.

Check the tabs up top for a couple of new items. We’ve implemented some basic posting guidelines. Nothing big or strict, just the few basic guidelines to remember when you’re posting.

We also have a new tab for the American Idols Live tour, and are experimenting with ways to let you respond and have a place to talk about meeting up for the tour. Give us a little bit more time on that. Also, if there are any dates you know of that I left off the list, please let me know and I’ll add them.

Your next two feature posts will be Jamiroquai and Common Market. Keep on the lookout for those sometime this week!

Lastly, here’s a pic of Blake out on the town!
