While we eagerly await tomorrow’s return of beatboxing Blake, enjoy this video of Cat Deeley’s top six interview with Blake.
His proudest moment? Meeting legendary beatboxer Doug E. Fresh.
This Columbus Dispatch article on beatboxing mentions Blake:
The 25-year-old Lewis, who will learn tonight whether he survives for another week on Idol, has helped make beatboxing sound fresh to modern ears, said Matthew A. Donahue, an instructor in the Popular Culture Department at Bowling Green State University.
“He brings something contemporary to beatboxing,” said Donahue, author of the forthcoming book “The Message Behind the Beat: American Rap and Punk Music and Message.”
Finally, the online gossip rag TMZ has posted some footage of Blake and Chris hitting the LA Club scene. The spin? Chris is corrupting Blake. Right.
One of the many things we’ve come to love about Blake Lewis is his unique fashion sense. How’d you like the gray blazer he sported this past Tuesday while crooning “Imagine”? According to Idol’s head stylist, Miles Siggins, it’s a celebrity hand-me-down…
We found Blake’s jacket at this great designer resale store here called Decades 2, which has clothes dropped off by all kinds of people, many of them household names…and this was no exception. The jacket was one of Robbie Williams’ castoffs. If you don’t know him, he wrote “Angels,” the song that Jessica Simpson murdered - sorry, Jessica - but if you hear Robbie’s version, you’ll understand!
Kind of fitting considering the Britpop vibe Blake often brings to his performances, no?
One other note from Miles about Blake’s inspirational night ensemble…
We also got him in to jeans for the first time this season, and for I have to thank Sara at Stich’s for that. He liked them because they don’t feel like jeans - they’re that comfortable!
Oh no! I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll never see Blake in his trademark plaid pants again!
So as promised, here is some more Blake on AI! I’ll throw in a non-AI performance as well. Use this to motivate yourself to vote, vote, vote this week for our man.
Top 12: “Keep Me Hangin’ On” by the Supremes
Top 11: “Time of the Season” by the Zombies
Top 10: “Love Song” by The Cure (311 version)
Top 9: “Mack the Knife” (I don’t care what anyone says. I just love this performance if only for the camera work (just one shot throughout) and the fact that the audience goes nuts for it so it must have been awesome in person.)
All the rest of his performances have been posted in the older pages so I won’t repeat them.
The Blaker Girls just sent out this bulletin on MySpace!
hey guys!
hope you all had an awesome week and your poor dialing fingers are healing nicely. ;) we’ll all have to vote like crazy next week, too since we have NO idea where blake was this week. remember, ryan announced them in ‘no particular order’ so that doesn’t mean jordin and chris were in the bottom two.
anyway, onto blake. i’ve been getting a lot of messages from people saying that blake has been looking sad lately and are wondering what is wrong. first, i PROMISE you, blake is not sad or depressed or anything like that. the last few weeks have had themes that aren’t what blake is used to. plus, blake hardly knows ANY top 40 type music, so every week he’s learning a song that he’s not very familiar with or has never heard before. blake isn’t the best at remembering lyrics, especially since before idol when he performed on his own he used to improv ALL the time. sometimes he wouldn’t even write lyrics until 5 min before a performance. so, in short, he’s been concentrating really hard on his performances. no need to worry, i promise. :) however, it is SO sweet that you’ve been concerned about him; i know he’s appreciate you all looking out for him.
next week’s performance should be AMAZING. he’s bringing back the beat-boxing and is very excited about his performance. this week’s theme is bon jovi, so it’ll be a good one.
thanks again for all of your support, guys. we couldn’t do it without you!!

Wasn’t that nice of them? The Blaker Girls rawk!!!
Blake Lewis has been a mere blip on the pop culture radar for only a few months, yet he’s already scored his own news feature on MTV! How awesome is that? In this piece, MTV dubs Blake The Accidental Idol and visits his hometown to chat with his biggest supporters - his friends and family. They also include some footage of Blake performing his original song “She Loves The Way.”
Sorry Blaker Mom, but I don’t think Blake’s fans are ready to send him home yet!
If you tuned in to Part 2 of Idol Gives Back last night, you probably heard Ryan Seacrest mention some of the special items available for purchase on iTunes to help raise money for the cause. In addition to those items, you can also find celebrity playlists created by each member of the Top 6! Check out Blake’s eclectic selections here. I kind of love him for including a Fiona Apple tune.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer put out a nice (if somewhat error filled) Blake-focused wrapup of Idol Gives Back week. After reading this quote from Blaker Girl spokeswoman Kristi Redman, I’d imagine (hee) Blake was frustrated with the critique he got from judge Randy Jackson this week.
“He was really excited [about singing ‘Imagine’]. He said it’s a John Lennon song and he wanted to pay homage to it without changing it. ‘If I had done something to it, I would have been ridiculed for years.’ It’s so beautiful and perfect as it is, why mess with it.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m siding with Blake on this one. And by the way, did you buy his studio recording of “Imagine” from americanidol.com yet? You should, because it’s super pretty.
I hate to start a new thread for this stuff but it may be necessary…

Moving on…
TV Guide Behind the Scenes: If the number of audience members’ signs were any indication of who will win, Jordin and Blake have the edge. When Blake spotted an “I Brake for Blake” banner, he showed his appreciation by doing The Robot….Blake laughing hysterically when Ben Stiller name-checked him…
EW.com Behind the Scenes: Of course, by then, the audience had been introduced to the all-dressed-in-white chorus line that was — and remains — the final six. The Idol who got the biggest cheer? Unequivocally, Blake. …Earth, Wind & Fire’s medley from Disney Hall, to which Blake grooved and LaKisha snapped along…Ben Stiller’s bit got everyone laughing, especially Blake and Simon…And with Randy clapping along and the audience on their feet, it was an appropriate closing to an ambitious and very long show. Even Blake looked beat and started yawning toward the end.
Chris Sligh: Blake and I met through Rudy, who I was very close to. Blake and I met the first night of Hollywood, and Rudy, Blake and I were virtually inseperable the rest of the week. When we got to the top 24, Jared Cotter and I were originally roommates, but he couldn’t take my snoring, so he moved out and switched with Blake. It was great being roommates with Blake - he really was the coolest roommate in the world. The thing about Blake is that the way you see him on tv is exactly how he is in real life…he is just smooth. He rarely gets mad, rarely raises his voice…he’s just smooth. What people don’t realize with him is that he was raised with a great work ethic and has had to work hard for everything that has ever happened to him. American Idol isn’t just an overnight success for him - he’s worked his tail off to get where he’s at. I’d love to write with him in the future, but let’s be honest, his style is a little different than mine - it’ll be cool to see what we could come up with for him. Btw, he is a good songwriter, and a good guitar player…he really is a great musician. I can’t wait to hear what his record sounds like. thanks pj!!
People.com Behind the Scenes Tuesday: There was no mistaking who was Blake Lewis’s biggest fan on this night: Ms. [Janice]Dickinson, who screamed the Idol contestant’s name during his performance of “Imagine” – and even gave him a standing ovation.
Blake
What he wore: A Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel T-shirt under a white button down polo shirt. Army green cargo shorts, and a pair of brand new white K-Swiss Tennis shoes, sunglasses propped on his head.
What he ate: Eggs Benedict. Two poached Eggs, asparagus, Fat Free yogurt with fresh blueberries. Bottled Water
Morning Highlight: Phil led the other two guys in a a song from Boys to Men that had the words “and I thank you.” Blake was doing those noises with his mouth and singing, so the kids flocked to him. But the older crowd was focused on Phil. Let’s just say (believe me when I tell you this), that this guy is more of an entertainer off camera then on. I repeat, more of an entertainer off camera than on. He is a riot!
Of Note: One of the speakers in his ipod headphones wasn’t working. The left one.
Ok - I’ll throw in a video for fun! Here is Blake in his friend Ethan Newberry’s music video for the Chuck Norris rap!
American Idol spoiler Ricky Hoggard has struck again. The kid who spoiled the top 24 prior to the official airing has announced this week’s vote order. You can see it at his myspace blog. Ricky has provided these lists in the past, but only AFTER the show. Lately, his spoilers have been the source of controversy around the blogosphere. Feel free to discuss them here, but keep the discussion out of the results show thread for those peeps who don’t want to be spoiled. I’m assuming such peeps exist.
